Yeah, I know. The title of this week’s post sounds like a guilt fest, right? You are thinking– “D’Arcy! There is no way I am limiting the money I want to make, how dare you!” (and then you bitchslap me!) You go on, “I want all the money in the world to come in to me, but it’s just not coming in! There is nothing more I can do about it, and I am so tired and frustrated! I am about ready to give up!!!”
To which I respond: #savethedramaforyourmama
Ok, not really.
This post is the result of an instagram caption I wrote. On Monday, I took to instagram to share a thought I had on my mind. That thought was, “oh, it’s time to follow up with people who have hired me for Stock Photography in the past and see what their needs are this year.” And so I wrote this post:
“As a photographer, having different sources of income really help me pay the bills and not be stressed about money! When weddings slow down in the winter, I focus more on doing stock photography for a few places. I don’t really publish this work much, but I have a ton of fun doing it and it pays awesome! When I find photographers struggling, a lot of the time it’s from poor business practices, but other times it’s just because you haven’t branched out enough to see how much the world needs your particular talent! Go You!”
I immediately got messages from some of you! Several people wanted me to tell them how to book stock photography sessions, and while that’s not something I can teach in a five minute response on instagram, it’s definitely something I can teach in a day long business makeover intensive! (I’m pitching it! Right on).
Another photographer said, “Thank you so much for your last post. Photography has been such a messy thing in my life. I wanted so bad to be able to grow and make any kind of income with it and your words today put a lot into perspective for me.”
What I know is that being a full-time, well-paid photographer is not the easiest thing in the world (seriously, law school seems like a breeze compared to this!), but I also know that your business grows the more open you are to taking on different and challenging jobs and the more you get off the couch and meet people. Some of the biggest developments in my life and career have come from attending business conferences and workshops where I met meeting and collaborated with other business owners. Or, this one time when I went to a party that I didn’t want to go to and met one of my future business partners. Or just being kind to people and nice and making friends and putting my heart out there so that I ended up getting a lot of referrals (how I’ve booked a lot of my stock jobs) and more.
I am committed to having a community of photographers who believe in creating over the scarcity of competition. Just today, I decided to offer a year end special. You can have me. For 10 hours. One day. Business intensive in NYC for just $1,100. This is $400 off what I normally charge for an 8 hour Intensive. There will not be a styled shoot involved as this is about tearing your business apart and building it back together with the best kind of practices out there. And there are only TWO SPOTS available.
Click here to book a call with me to see if this 10 Hour Intensive would be the right move for you in your business at this time. This call is free and there is no pressure to book. I would love to talk to you and help you understand the way you business can earn money in more ways than just one.
Too Success!
